The idea of living in a small town has always had its appeal. When we stumbled upon the east Texas community of Mount Vernon in early 2014, it was everything we'd been looking for -- historic main street, blue ribbon school district, friendly neighbors, rolling farmland, cedars and pines, and plenty of room to stretch out. There was also plenty of opportunity to make a difference -- so we happily rolled up our sleeves and got to work.

Entrepreneur, designer, wife, and mother, Shannon spends the bulk of her time chasing kids and chickens, and managing the marketing and operations for Ostertag Construction and ML Edwards & Co.
MEET THE KIDS
As far as blended families go, we're incredibly fortunate. From the onset, our not-so-littles bonded easily, and remain close.
From left to right, Greg's daughters Bailey and Shelby attend college in Colorado. Greg's son Cody calls Mount Vernon home and is set to marry a sweet local girl this winter. Our daughter Charlee, appropriately perched on Daddy's shoulders. And Shannon's son Trevor and daughter Lily also live in, and love, Mount Vernon.
